The Author of the universe allowed himself to be scourged and killed by his creation. It looks inexplicable. But Jesus suffered voluntarily because He knew what He was going to achieve and He believed it was worth it. This shows what it means for us to take our cross and follow Jesus. Following Jesus is not easy, sometimes it costs a lot. People might mock you, hate you, it might be wearisome. But if we look at Jesus, one day we will know that all the effort was not in vain.
