People cannot simply build a building and call it the church, as so many try to do. Rather a person is called by God and answers that call, like a person answers a call on the phone. A true Christian is a person God has selected and “called out.” Colossians 1:18 states very clearly that “He [Jesus] is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.” God’s Church has one head, Jesus Christ, and is one body. Those who are committed to the church are God’s people.
