This is a passage that has caused controversy among Christians because it raises many theological questions. In these verses, the author speaks of people who have impressive spiritual characteristics and experiences. Then he says that if they have fallen away, it is impossible to bring them to repentance. Are we talking about true Christians here or false ones? Is it possible to have had spiritual experiences and even demonstrate a changed life, but then fall away from the faith? Or is the maxim “once saved, always saved” in effect?
